FAQs
TRYOUTS & TEAM SELECTION
-
Tryouts are held prior to each new season. Fall Travel Ball and Fall Academy tryouts take place in June/July. Spring/Summer Travel Ball tryouts typically occur in November.
-
Our 8-week Fall Academy (Sept-Oct) is focused on fundamentals and structured game play. September emphasizes skills training with professional coaches. October includes Sunday games between Academy teams. Designed for learning, fun, and confidence building.
-
A player's age is based on how old they will be on April 30, 2026. For example, if your child turns 12 on April 30, 2026, they would try out for 12U.

Any player who meets the age requirements can try out - this includes boys and girls. We welcome committed athletes who are eager to improve and contribute to a team.
-
We evaluate skill level, baseball IQ, positional needs, team chemistry, and a player’s development path. Placement is based not just on current ability but long-term potential.
-
Players are scored in:
Catch Play (<8U)
Infield Play
Hitting
Arm Strength
Pitching
Catching (the position)

Detailed feedback is limited due to the fast-paced evaluation process. Tryouts are a snapshot-not a full measure of a player’s ability and potential.

It happens. We recognize that one day doesn’t define a player and often look at other data and past performance when available.
-
Preparation tips include:
Sharpening fundamentals (glove work, hitting, throwing)
Mental readiness
A prepared and confident player stands out. Focus on giving 100% and not worrying about making a mistake

SEASON STRUCTURE & TIMING
-
Fall Season: September-November
Spring/Summer Season: February-June/July
-
Team formation is a thoughtful and strategic process. Each player attends a tryout or is evaluated during workouts to ensure accurate placement. Coaches and program leaders consider the following when forming teams:
Skill level and developmental needs
Age and graduation year
Positional balance (ensuring teams have pitchers, catchers, infielders, outfielders)
Team chemistry and coaching fit
Marin Baseball creates multiple teams across age groups with the goal of giving every athlete an environment that is challenging, supportive, and aligned with their long-term development. Each team within the program receives high-level coaching, access to tournaments, and growth opportunities.
We prioritize development over short-term wins and are intentional in creating teams that foster confidence, character, and baseball IQ.
